Damian Malnar From Lost Stars Talks About Setting The World in Motion

Damian Malnar is the lead singer and keyboardist for the alternative pop/rock band Lost Stars.  Though just over a year old, they exhibit the sound and brand confidence of a band who has been together much longer.  They compare themselves to Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Maroon 5 and OneRepublic, with a rocking vibe and catchy melodies that are easy to move to.

What currently sets this band apart is their latest release titled "It Only Takes One."  Most of their lyrical content is driven by emotion and the human experience, but with this song, they take a leap into the current tumultuous political climate.  As the first song co-written by the band, the idea for the track came from the band scrolling through social media and realizing that the change that needs to happen should start on a personal level.  Damian told Nashville Offbeat more over coffee at Crema.

"I happened to scroll, and find this article about African-American blues pianist and author, Daryl Davis.  He was deliberately going out of his way to meet members and leaders of KKK groups to talk to them and befriend them.  His view point was 'How can you hate someone you don't even know?'  So as he met these people, he created a memoir of his experiences.

...I think we all like to remove ourselves and look through a screen, but the real question is 'how would we behave in these situations?'  You never know when you'll be put into an important situation when you don't have much time to make a decision about whether you'll be selfish and only think of yourself, or be someone who carries the message of love."

"It Only Takes One," asks that as an informed, educated individuals, we all start to loosen the chains of ignorance and help make the world a better place.  And it all starts with one.  With you.  With me.  With the entire Nashville Offbeat community.  Follow Lost Stars on Instagram and Facebook to keep an eye out for upcoming tour dates and a music video in the works!
