Nashville Offbeat sat down for coffee and a conversation with Stephen Hanner, and found him to be quite impressive! In the past, Stephen has toured with the band The Delta Saints, and has extensive experience as a studio musician and touring here in Nashville and abroad.
Stephen is a Seydel-endorsed harmonica player, a songwriter, and the creator of the upcoming alternative rock band, The Woeful Strangers, which will be releasing its first single,"Little Angel," this month. Nashville Offbeat was granted a preview of "Little Angel," and was blown away by the songs beauty and artistry. The music weaves intricately around the melancholy vocals, and turns into a passionate fire culminating in an exciting crescendo. Stephens featured harmonica solo will make you wonder why electric guitar soloing is even a thing! "Little Angel" will be part of a six song debut LP that the band is currently recording. Here's what Stephen has to say about it:
"It's all from a real place. This album will be a six song concept album that will take you through where I was at a dark time in my life. It'll take you through a relationship I had that went completely downhill... I was in the lowest point I've ever been. We're portraying that through our music. By the end of it, I come back up. It's true emotion. Even if we don't do anything with it, at least I got to express myself."
Stephen's journey is one that any listener can relate to. Check out Stephen Hanner's website, and follow The Woeful Strangers on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for news and get ready to go to their first show by the end of July!
I love how stripped down this song is. In a world full of over-production and being as loud as you can, “Sidewalk” is an easy-breezy breath of fresh air.
“What’d You Think” was performed, recorded, and shot live on Delmarva Life TV in Maryland earlier this year. I found their performance to be full of passion, emotion, and life.
For instance, the band laments the trials and tribulations of dating a vegan: …
You’re in the sky, grazing the moon with your hands, rearranging stars, and smiling wistfully. This is where my mind takes me when I hear “Are You The Girl” by Kira Hooks, just released on April 17th, 2018.
With a little bit of sass, blues, and rock n’ roll, Lauren Anderson is bringing us a song reminiscent of early Grace Potter. Released March 30th, “The Game” is a head-banger that will pump you up and empower your day!
Released on April 17th, I find “Body Language,” to be timeless, sexy and beautifully produced, and think that you will too.
Capturing the essence of drama, the pain of heartbreak, and the freedom of letting go, “Strangers” is a beautifully written song about the romantic tragedy of losing a part of your identity in someone else.
He’s waiting for a call from someone in an emptiness that extends beyond his physical being.
One of my favorite songs on the album, “Just Wanna Meet You”, puts into words the longing we all feel to find someone to live our lives with. The idea that there’s a person out there meant just for you is one that brings comfort to all the hopeless romantics of the world.
The video features the band playing in Somer’s garage/rehearsal space, cut with kaleidoscope-like outdoor and driving scenes, giving an overall feeling of psychedelic displacement and trippiness (you may want to break out the sticky-icky for this one, gang).
