Becca Richardson at The Basement
Becca Richardson is gaining momentum within the Nashville music scene lately. Known for her red electric guitar and soulful, angelic voice, she was recently Lightning 100's Artist of the Week, and just released her new album called "We Are Gathered Here," (not yet available online), on August 14th. Proclaiming The Basement as her favorite venue in Music City, this singer/songwriter awed and inspired fans and friends at her release show this past Monday.
Leading on vocals and electric guitar herself, Becca stepped on stage as a six-piece band comprised of cello, keys, bass, drums, and electric guitar. The first song in her set began with guitar and vocals, a chorus pedal adding ambient harmonies behind her. By the time the cello came in, she was offering an invitation to the crowded room, repeating "are you ready?" into the mic (and yes, we were all ready!). The second song kicked the entire band into gear with a rocking vibe, backing her soft, clear, powerful voice. An enthusiastic and supportive audience of about fifty in this small space were all reeled into Becca's lyrics and couldn't take their eyes off of her.
Becca's presence on stage was confident and inviting, passion-driven by love for music and love for others. In a beautiful and inspiring moment of gratitude, she reached out to the audience, using her mic to tell them "black lives matter, trans[gendered] lives matter, and white supremacy can just go to hell." A few songs later, she closed her set with her single "Wanted," which has been sweeping through the radio waves on Lightning 100. As she sang the chorus, ("doesn't it feel good to be wanted?"), stirrings of past relationships swept through our minds, all the while feeling that this musical sentiment was an excellent way to wrap up the show.
Becca Richardson plays out often around Nashville, TN and here at Nashville Offbeat we think that it's only a matter of time before more and more people notice her!
