Josh Gray and ilyAIMY House Show

Josh Gray and ilyAIMY House Show

Nashville Offbeat hit a stroke of luck at it's first house show on June 30!  Americana artist Josh Gray, and one third of Baltimore's Acoustic Grunge band, ilyAIMY, both played beautiful sets throughout the night.  The room was perfectly suited to carry voices, acoustic guitars, and electric cello through the air with limited amplification.

Walking in, Josh Gray's clear, deep voice captivated an intimate setting of about twenty-five people listening attentively to each word he sang.  His songs had a quality that brought both beauty and a sense of melancholy to the audience.  With a slight country twang to his voice, his poetic lyrics and performance style made it clear that he put his own spin on the Americana genre.  He told old-time stories with a new and relatable perspective to the modern listener.  "It's always been a fault of mine, remembering only the good times."

It's rare to see a room of adults, and even some children, engulfed in music together (no one had their phone out!).  Josh Gray's smooth voice and steady, well-thought guitar parts made him a perfect artist to be performing in an acoustic setting.  Nashville Offbeat loved every second.  He is currently putting tour dates together, so check him out on Facebook and plan to see him live!

Acoustic grunge band ilyAIMY have been touring the country for fifteen years.  Rob and Kristen, two of the six members, performed Friday night, and were phenomenal!  From the energy they displayed for the audience, to their sheer talent and musicianship, it was obvious they were not new to the game.  Their sound was comprised of fast melodies and faster guitar licks, gorgeous harmonies, and witty lyrical content.  Each song left the listener in anticipation of the next.  The two covered a wide range of topics, from politics to Sci-fi novels!

ilyAIMY's stage banter and story-telling held everyone's rapt attention, with anecdotes from their life on the road and band love-affairs.  When performers truly love what they do, and believe in their art with a passion, one can't help but to sit in awe and experience the moment.  In the words of lead singer Rob, "Music is one of those things that brings disparate humans together."  Check out their touring schedule on Facebook and give them a follow!
