Premiere: Issac Black Gives Us "Diamonds"
Break-ups are messy. Did you know that they could also be beautiful? Issac Black shows us how with the right amount of artistry, the worst of breakup feelings can be captivating.
After graduating high school in North Carolina, 18-year old Issac pioneered his own path by auditioning for the Segue 61 program, held here in Nashville. Upon arriving, he realized that he was the youngest person in the group by at least 4 years. That didn’t stop everyone from loving and respecting him as an artist. The program, along with the friends he made during its course, would help him to cultivate his musical talents in a new way and provide him the skills and confidence to write his first song.
At the end of his first serious long-term relationship, Issac called upon his classmate and friend, Tim Aven, to help him get his tumultuous emotions into a song. When Issac asked him to play something that he could sing to, Aven responded with a jazzy, bluesy guitar riff, melding Issac’s lyrics and melodies in the just the right way. This song became known as “Diamonds.”
“Diamonds” has the stylings to be on a playlist with Leon Bridges, Billie Holiday, and Alabama Shakes. When listening for the first time, notice the elegance of Aven’s guitar part combined with Issac’s smooth and flawless voice. It transports you to a timeless place where simplicity is king and wearing your heart on your sleeve is courageous and alluring.
“Now that chapter’s through
So are me and you
Your love is like Diamonds
Cold and hard to find…”
Issac Black is performing a release show for “Diamonds” on Sunday, February 25th at the Segue 61 Studios (the same day that “Diamonds” will be available online!)
