Trace Jory and Claire Kelly Give the World Their Hearts in "Bathwater"
On February 14th, 2018, Trace Jory and Claire Kelly joined forces to give the world a piece of their hearts in their new single titled “Bathwater.” It tells the story of two lovers who have loved each other and lost. Knowing that some loves don’t die out when they end- Jory and Kelly have tapped into that feeling of holding onto a flame for someone you can’t be with. Despite the nature of it's message, I'm somehow left feeling hopeful and nostalgic while playing it on repeat.
“Bathwater” is performed by Trace Jory on vocals and acoustic guitar, Claire Kelly on vocals, and featuring Alex Stradal on cello. Together, Jory and Stradal create a soundscape that is comparable to Ben Howard and Angus & Julia Stone. A simplicity in their instrumental part leaves plenty of room for Jory and Kelly’s clear and resonant voices to climb above it and captivate the broken-hearted. Using space - in a song about time - "Bathwater" manages to pull at the heartstrings of all who listen.
“The bathwaters getting cold
Yes, and these words are getting old
But I wanted you to know
That I will always love you.”
The video released with this single pulls the whole story together for me. It takes place at Three Corners Coffee. The room is reminiscent of my grandmothers home where she would be sitting with her late husband surrounded by trinkets and art representing their lives together. It gives the video a timeless quality that drives the songs message even deeper.
