Premiere Interview: Jared Minnix Releases "Antidote"

Jared Minnix has a new single coming out on June 1st!  “Antidote,” beautifully written and produced, is inspired by his true love story.  We have the pleasure of exclusively sharing that story with you here on Nashville Offbeat.

After hearing "Antidote" for the first time, we immediately knew that we had to learn more. Where did his inspiration come from? Who is the girl he’s singing so passionately about? Some pop songs sound like they are purely for the entertainment of the listener, but Minnix created a mood and intimacy so intriguing in this one that we had to know it better. He held nothing back:

Where were you when you wrote Antidote?

“Antidote came to life in one of my many co-writes.  I’ve always been the ‘idea guy’ in co-writes. I keep a long list of titles, lyrics, or ideas in my phone to pull from in my sessions.  At the time, I had the word “antidote” down on this list. I just really loved the way the word sounded.”

When I wrote this one, I had been going through a horrible break up.  I was just pouring songs out because of it. I had a lot of hurt and brokenness inside of me that I wanted to get out.  Reflecting back on that time, It was as if I was poisoned with the thought of losing her, but writing a song called Antidote may be what saved me.”

What made you link the science of an antidote to the concept of love?

“Antidote is defined as: a medicine or other remedy for counteracting the effects of poison, disease. Etc.”

Growing up I learned that to cure a venomous bite from a snake, you had to use an anti-venom. It amazed me that you could take something so deadly and poisonous as venom, and purify it to treat the same poison.”

While writing this song, I knew I wanted to approach the concept in a different light. I felt horrible through that breakup; like death.  Honestly, she was the only thing that I thought would cure me. Just like an anti-venom, I believed that the person poisoning me was the only one who could save me. Things in our relationship just had to be purified and cleaned. We needed space to grow, time to change, and time to realize what we had together.”

Once that toxic relationship was purified, it turned into an antidote to save us both.”

What do you want your listeners to take from listening to this song?

“I hope that listeners can see the silver lining in the story.  This entire EP is centered around the same heartbreak. I want listeners to fight for those they love, just like I have.”

“Thankfully, the story to this song has a happy ending!  That girl who I thought had poisoned me was in fact my real life Antidote.  She is now my fiancé, and we will be getting married this fall!  She has always been my antidote, and she continues to save me and cure me.”

"Antidote” will be available on your favorite music streaming service tomorrow, June 1st 2018!  So give it a listen, and tell your friends to give it a listen!
