Song Review: Kate Puckett Makes You Want More in "Body Language"

Kate Puckett seems to have tapped into a special kind of sound that brings us hints of the greats like Mariah, Madonna and Whitney.  To be honest, I haven’t heard anything like her latest single in Nashville since I began writing about the offbeat scene.  Released on April 17th, I find “Body Language,” to be timeless, sexy and beautifully produced, and think that you will too.

“Body Language” is a sensual song about having more than just a physical connection with someone.  It’s about a relationship that transcends the realm of verbal communication. When you have a love like the one in Puckett’s story, you don’t always need to say what you feel.  Instead, the other person just knows and you can both express yourselves by looking at each other a certain way, or kissing one another passionately.

Jumping out at me first are Puckett’s harmonies.  They set the stage and create the perfect ambiance to receive her first lyrics: “I don’t ever wonder what you’re thinking, you and I have our own rapport.”  By the time I get to the chorus, I understand that this is a song about love and desire as her voice soars over a tight groove and fluid harmonies. The warmth of it makes me feel like I could wrap myself up in it and listen all day...because, as Puckett says in the chorus, “I want more.”  Going into the second half of the song as it builds, Puckett leaves a trail of vocal runs that make me want to cry tears of joy. Her voice is soft, but powerful, and this song showcases it perfectly.

You won’t be able to listen to this one time.  You’ll play “Body Language” over and over, so get ready to fall in love.

You can catch Kate Puckett at our April showcase at The 5 Spot on April 25th, 2018.  I’ve seen her perform before and can tell you that you definitely don’t want to miss seeing her perform!  Connect with Puckett on Facebook and Instagram, and give her a follow on Spotify to add “Body Language” to your playlists.  You can also find her at www.katepuckett.com.
