Get Lost in the New TonyB. Single "2am"

TonyB. is a soul/pop artist who grew up right here in East Nashville.  In 2014, his first EP titled “Highways” launched his career and ever since then, he has been challenging himself to continually create something that is better than his last release.  In January, TonyB. released a new video for his song titled 2am.  Though rooted in simplicity, the video and song alike are filled with perfectly placed artistic expression that commands the attention of the listener.

About two years ago, this songwriter went through a dark period that took many wild turns. It eventually led him into a depression- creating an ultimate sense of emptiness.  During this time, he continued holding onto a relationship that he became consumed by even though he knew it wasn't meant to be.  Life may be short, but at some point, we all seem to fall into this sort of void with someone.  2am describes the feeling that comes with staying up late- waiting for that call or text.  Through the use of space, big open beats, storytelling lyrics, and catchy hooks- TonyB. recreates his experiences, letting others know that they are not alone.

Hit play on the video for 2am, and you’re looking into an empty industrial space with a single light cast on the floor.  As TonyB. walks into the screen you can feel the anticipation and sense of urgency in his movement as the song goes on.  He’s waiting for a call from someone in an emptiness that extends beyond his physical being.

The inspiration for the video came to TonyB. in a dream.  He dreamt of different lights being cast in a large space.  When he relayed this idea to videographer ST Davis the concept came to life.  Upon first watching, I believed that the light on the floor was a phone screen that he kept checking as the night went on.  As I continue watching, I also imagine that Tony himself could be a moth drawn to the light of another even though he knows that the light could hurt him in the end.  What do you interpret? Check it out for yourself.

You can follow TonyB. on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.  His single, 2am is available on Spotify, or whatever your favorite music streaming platform happens to be.  If you enjoy the song and video above, Nashville Offbeat recommends that you also check out his latest single, Use Me, that goes hand-in-hand with 2am.  TonyB. is going places, so put him on your radar and watch him as he reaches the stars!
